Casually Crafting – Ho-Ho-Ho Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge

Welcome to our monthly Casually Crafting Blog Hop, our blog hop focuses on a Casual Crafter, someone who may not yet have all the equipment. although probably will soon… This month our theme is a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge. For this project I used the Perfectly Plaid stamp set and coordinating Pine Tree punch to create a collection of Tags, which I have called my Ho-Ho-Ho collection.

Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge

The Tic-Tac-Toe challenge is to create a project by selecting and using three elements from a line in a pre-set grid, either horizontal, vertical or diagonal. I chose the diagonal line from top left to bottom right:

  • Christmas
  • Tag
  • Metallic

Why not have a go yourself? Pick a line and see what you come up with. You will find lots of inspiration from the other design team members.

Ho-Ho-Ho Tag Collection

I like to use stamped (with Early Espresso) brown paper as wrapping paper. It was therefore a no-brainer for me to use Kraft Card as my base for the production of my Christmas Tags. This card beautifully provides a contrast to the gold metallic elements I created using Gilded Leaf and Gold ribbon.

Ho-Ho-Ho Tags Set #1

My first set of tags were created using Kraft card, with the Scalloped Tag and Detailed Trio punches to create the tags. Unfortunately the Scalloped Tag is now retired, but there is an equally lovely Fancy Tag Topper punch for this. I stamped the images and sentiment in Early Espresso and Evening Evergreen. Accents were stamped with Versa Mark, embossed using Heat and Stick Powder and Gilded Leafing applied. The mini trees (from the top of the tree), the layer for the raised tree and stars were punched from off-cuts / extras from the other projects. Gold ribbon was added to the tag top.

Ho-Ho-Ho Tags Set #2

My second set of tags were created again using Kraft card, with the Scalloped Tag and Detailed Trio punches to create the tags. I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso. For this set of tags, I created a Gilded Leaf panel, using double sided adhesive sheets to adhere the Gilded Leaf to Kraft card. From this I punched some trees to create the tag toppers. I also created a double layered tag, where the gold layer peeks through the punched tree of the top Kraft card layer. The red stars (these can be punched using the Starlit punch) were punched from the Gilded Leaf panel and coloured with the dark Cherry Cobbler blend and highlighted with Crystal Effects. Gold ribbon was added to the tag top.

Ho-Ho-Ho Tags Set #3

My third set of tags were created again using Kraft card, with the Scalloped Tag and Detailed Trio punches to create the tags. I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso. For this set of tags, I created ribbon panels by layering Gold ribbon, Evening Evergreen and Soft Succulent ribbon. I punched the tree to create a double layer tag and a Gilded Leaf tree. For the third tag, I tried to layer the ribbon and then punch the tree, but this didn’t work so I punched a tree from Kraft card and adhesive sheet, then applied the ribbon and trimmed to the shape of the tree. The Gilded Leaf tree and stars were punched from off-cuts / extras from the other projects. Gold ribbon was added to the tag top.

Ho-Ho-Ho Tags Set #4

My last set of tags were created again using Kraft card, using the Tree and Double Oval punches to create the tags. I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso (off-set stamping of a single Ho for two of these tags). For this set of tags, I created the tags using the punched trees, mostly from off-cuts from the other projects, to create flat and 3D tags. Gold ribbon and White ribbon, coloured with the dark Soft Suede blend was added to the tag top.

I hope you enjoyed my project. Please find below more projects from the Casually Crafting Design Team.

  1. Haha! Great minds think alike. (I chose to use Perfectly Plaid to create tags for this Blog Hop, also) I love your tags, this set is perfect for them! The 3D Christmas Tree (set 2) is my favorite, but they are all wonderful!

  2. Sara Sayers says:

Gotta love a pretty tag and yours are fabulous. Thanks for hopping with us this month x

  3. I love these tags Hilary – especially the mini tree attachments – I might just have to make some of these myself!
