Casually Crafting – Sketch

Welcome to our monthly Casually Crafting Blog Hop. This month our theme is based on a sketch… this time of the Stampin’ Up! year, to keep things current, my choice of stampset is restricted to those which are carrying forward into the new Annual Catalogue (new products available from 4th May). Fortunately Stampin’ Up! gave us an early release of the lovely Butterfly Brilliance stampset and dies, I have therefore used these for my projects.

Our blog hop focuses on a Casually Crafter, someone who may not yet have all the equipment. although probably will soon ;). Therefore my initial card offering is a stamped image, which I subsequently stepped up using the dies.

The backgrounds of these cards were created on Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper, by spritzing with water then dropping ink from refill bottles. In Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Granny Apple Green, plus Mango Melody and Poppy Parade. After which, whilst still damp Wink of Stella was flicked onto the coloured areas. More water was spritzed (or removed by tissue) as required. These were then dried with a heat gun (which also created a pretty flicked, or is it flecked effect).

I choose to stamp the butterflies in memento (although Stayzon my have produced a quicker clearer image), but to get a clear image I over stamped multiple times, for this the Stamparatus is an imperative piece of equipment (if you haven’t got one already, you should think about investing in one – there are so many techniques which will be opened up to you).

The sentiments are from Sweet Strawberry with the Double Oval Punch, on a scrap of Shimmery White.

The cards are layered on Granny Apple Green and Mango Melody on to a Basic Black card base. I made these into 5″ by 7″ cards, why cut off and waste the edges of the water colour card? (which are larger than A6 but smaller than A5).

The second card was created with die cut butterflies, who of course will own a die cutting macine, I use the new Mini Stampin’ Cut and Emboss machine as it can sit so easily on my small craft desk alongside my work area. Before I cut the butterflies I brushed Wink of Stella over Basic Black card… Hint: if it becomes more solid in areas spritzing with water helps move the ink (shimmer) around the card.

I love these two sets of colours together, they make beautiful butterfly colours.
