This month whilst thinking about ‘last hurrah’ projects for retiring stamp sets, we are especially sad to see Family and Friends go, my upline Sara Sayers and I came up with this project to produce a happy families game. This is a great project to create with children, with a unique, fun and colourful pack of cards to play with once the project is complete. Happy Families can be played using one pack of 36 cards, we made a pack each – 72 cards in total, in addition snap and the memory matching game can be played with both packs (although if you wish to simplify the games and snap / match on family, rather than member of the family, all three games can be played with a single pack).
The cards were produced using a rectangular piece of whisper white cardstock with a patterned piece of DSP card stuck to it (note: keep this a simple and repeating piece of DSP, to avoid the cards becoming recognisable from the reverse). We actually used an old ATC card die to cut these, but they could be cut using the trimmer and rounding the corners with the Detailed Trio Punch. The families using the retiring Families and Friends stampset, if you wish to make this project please purchase the Family and Friends set, it’s only £16, before 4-Jun-19 when it retires, it can be purchased from my online shop.
Four characters for each colour family were produced, below is an example of a full set of the families, the Bermuda’s (Bermuda Bay):
This project was only really possible because the two of us worked together and that completely showcases everything we love about Stampin’ Up! and our Team. Despite our different ages, backgrounds and ethnicity, we are truly one huge group of friends / family / tribe (call it what you want!), because of our combined love of paper crafting. Let’s meet the Families…
Mr Bernard Bermuda (Berney) is a grand child of the Windrush generation, enjoys nothing more than visiting their holiday home in Bridgewater Bay. Bernie loves West Indian cricket and has finally managed to get MCC membership, after years on the waiting list. He often meets his close friend Mr Balmy to discuss all things cricket and catch up and share stories of their wives crafting activities. Berney met his wife, Bernadette (Bernie), a former Miss Bermuda on holiday in BERMUDA BAY on route to visit to his ancestral homeland, he persuaded her to move to England with him, where they have set up home and now have 2 beautiful children. Bernie enjoys her monthly crafting date with her best friend Mrs Poppy, they attend classes provided by their local Stampin’ Up! demo, and occasionally host parties with their demo to share their love of crafting with friends and family.
Mr and Mrs Granny love the Surrey home, they inherited from family, with its mature organic garden. They especially enjoy pottering and lovingly tending the fruit trees in their small orchard. In the autum Mrs Grace Granny is especially famous at her local farmers market for her apply chutney, which she lovingly sells as GRANNY APPLE GREEN chutney. Grace has a large group of local friends and neighbours, whom she enjoys inviting to her Stampin’ Up! parties which she hosts with the assistance of her local Stampin’ Up! demo. She enjoys the planning, organisation and support provided by her demo, which allows her to relax and share her love of crafting with her friends in her own home. This suites Grace as she and some of her friends are not especially technically savvy, so she and her friends can see products and projects without using a computer, they can create any orders in a way they feel comfortable and her Stampin’ Up! demo can place the online orders for them if needed.
Mr and Mrs Heather are highly creative, they met when they both worked in the media industry in London, with the impending arrival of twins they decided to move to Scotland, which they fell in love with on a vacation, especially the beauty of the HIGHLAND HEATHER. Mrs Helen Heather initially joined as a Stampin’ Up! demo in London, where she was initially a customer, having attended a class held by her Stampin’ Up! demo, now her upline. On giving up commercial TV work to move to Scotland and raise their twins, Helen enjoys the remote support of her upline and the experience gained from attending classes herself to set up and run craft classes in her local community, at which she shares her creativity. She finds the wealth of inspiration and support from a wider, global online Stampin’ Up! community, valuable to her.
Mr Flavius Flirty is a true modern metro sexual man, and is no longer with his former partner, he adores his two beautiful, fun loving children who live with him, and doesn’t have much spare ‘me’ time, and uses his time wisely. Flavius enjoys crafting and also the social interaction he gains from being part of a Stampin’ Up! community. He does not have a craft room, at his Surrey home, but has created a craft cupboard in the spare room, and is building up a craft ‘stash’, as he is limited in space he chooses his crafting supplies wisely, Stampin’ Up! products provides the quality, co-ordination and versatility he needs. Flavius hopes to extend his crafting hobby to run classes and host parties with friends, he is planning to discuss this with his Stampin‘ Up! demo, and may join her team. Unfortunately for his white Ragdoll cat, Fifi, his cheeky children have helped themselves to one of his re-inkers and have dyed her pink (he is not sure, so will be double checking Fifi is OK), Fifi aka FLIRTY FLAMINGO (her new nickname) is going for a bath. After this Flavius is going online to create an order to replace the re-inker, and whilst he is at it, it would be rude not to add a few other ‘essentials’.
Originally from Hong Kong, the family have now settled in London. Posy has been given her first dog, whom she loves to take to dog shows where Miss POPPY PARADE(s) him up and down the ring, encouraged from the ringside by her parents. Mrs Poppy enjoys attending classes or hosting parties with her close friend Mrs Bermuda. Mrs Poppy purchases her Stampin’ Up! items in a variety of ways… She enjoys the classes she attends, she loves the cards, boxes, home decor (etc.) items she makes, and will often place an order at class, or will be inspired to place an online order via her demo’s online shop when she gets home. She especially likes a product based class where in addition to projects, she will take home a stamp set or punch or kit (and / or other items) as part of her class fee. She partakes of paper and ribbon shares, when offered by her demo, which provide her with the ability to have a selection of co-ordinating products without purchasing the whole pack.
There are four more families…
You might have noticed that I have only given you the back ground to five of the families… So if you would like to discover more about the remaining families, please take a look at my fellow demo Sara Sayers at SUCraftyLittleMinx, where she has the other half of the families.
